Keep your lash curler hygienic and effective with our step-by-step cleaning and pad replacement guide. Extend tool life and protect your lashes.

Quick answer

Clean your lash curler weekly with gentle soap and water, and replace pads every 2–3 months to preserve curl performance and eye hygiene.

Why regular maintenance matters more than you think

A dirty curler can transfer oils, mascara residue, and bacteria to your natural lashes and lash extensions, increasing the risk of irritation or infection. Over time, pad wear reduces the crimp strength, so you press harder and pinch your lid.

Cleaning is quick—about 2 minutes—and prevents the need for a replacement curler. The Lash Aid Lash Curler comes with one set of replacement pads, which is a clue that pads are consumable and should be swapped routinely.

When to replace the pads vs. the whole tool

If the silicone pad becomes sticky, cracked, or loses grip, replace it. The curler itself lasts years if kept clean. Only buy a new tool if the hinge loosens or the metal frame bends.

Step-by-step cleaning and pad replacement

  1. Remove the silicone pad: Gently pull the pad out of the curler head. If it resists, use a clean pair of tweezers to lift the edge. Do not use sharp tools that could scratch the metal. Most curler damage happens when people pry with scissors. Use tweezers sparingly.
  2. Clean the metal arc and handle: Dampen a cotton pad with isopropyl alcohol or mild soap solution. Wipe the upper and lower metal surfaces, then the handle. Avoid soaking the hinge—excess moisture can cause rust. Skip the rubbing alcohol if you have sensitive skin; a mix of gentle dish soap and water works just as well.
  3. Wash the pad separately: Rinse the silicone pad under lukewarm water and rub it with your fingertip to remove mascara residue. Pat dry with a lint-free cloth before reinserting. Never boil the pad or put it in the dishwasher—heat deforms the silicone shape.
  4. Reinsert the pad or install a new one: Align the pad evenly in the curler groove, then press it into place with your thumb. Check that the pad sits flush across the entire cushion—any gap will produce an uneven curl. A misaligned pad is the most common cause of lash crimps that look pinched or folded.
  5. Sanitize after each use (optional quick step): Mist a tissue with rubbing alcohol and swipe the pad and metal surface before storing. This kills bacteria and cuts down on weekly deep cleaning. Do this only when the curler is fully dry to avoid trapping moisture in the pad groove.
